Nearby, visitors can enjoy the Belek Jeep Safari, which takes you through scenic mountain roads and pine forests leading to the canyon. The area around Tazi Canyon also includes the ancient city of Selge, perched high in the Taurus Mountains and dating back to the Pisidian and Pamphylian periods. Tazi Canyon, often called the Grand Canyon of Turkey, is a stunning natural gorge located within Köprülü Canyon National Park. Its cliffs rise up to 400 meters, forming steep, narrow walls that create a dramatic contrast between the canyon rim and the river below. The canyon stretches for about 4 kilometers, with a width of 30–50 meters in most parts. It’s also rich in vegetation and home to diverse wildlife such as eagles, hawks, wild goats, rabbits, and rock pigeons. Tazi Canyon, also known as Avatar Canyon, was shaped over millions of years by the Köprüçay River cutting through limestone and other rock layers, gradually forming its deep and narrow gorge. Because of its steep cliffs and unique landscape, many people call it Avatar Canyon, as its scenery resembles the natural world seen in the movie Avatar. The river that flows through the canyon is cool and clear, creating small pools and gentle streams along its path. Where is Tazi Canyon located?
Tazi Canyon is located in Köprülü Canyon National Park, within the Manavgat district of Antalya Province in southern Turkey. It lies between the small villages of Gaziler and Karabük, about 10 km north of the famous Köprülü River rafting area. The canyon is roughly halfway between Antalya city and the mountain region of Isparta, surrounded by dense pine forests and limestone cliffs.
What is the history of Tazi Canyon?
Tazi Canyon is a natural formation shaped over millions of years by the erosive force of the Köprüçay River cutting through limestone rocks. The region has been part of ancient Pisidia, an area known for its rugged terrain and mountain settlements. While the canyon itself has no direct archaeological sites, the nearby ruins of Selge, an ancient Pisidian city, show that this area was inhabited since the Hellenistic period. The canyon remained largely undiscovered by tourism until around 2017–2018, when drone and social media photos made it famous worldwide as “Avatar Canyon.”
How to get to Tazi Canyon on your own?
If you wish to visit independently, you can drive or rent a car from Antalya, Belek, or Side:
✓ From Antalya: about 105 km, roughly 2 hours by car.
✓ From Belek: about 76 km, around 1 hour 20 minutes drive.
✓ From Side: about 83 km, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes drive.
✓ You follow the Antalya–Manavgat–Köprülü Canyon route, passing through Beşkonak village and then a 15 km mountain road leading up to the viewing area. The last section is narrow and unpaved, so a jeep or SUV is recommended. There are no public buses directly to the canyon, so joining our tour or private transfer from Belek Travel is easier.
How deep is Tazi Canyon?
The canyon’s depth varies from 200 to 400 meters, depending on the section. The narrowest parts create a dramatic vertical drop from the viewing point to the Köprüçay River below. These deep limestone walls were formed by continuous river erosion over thousands of years, creating a visually striking and geologically important landscape.

The trip was okay, tho some parts felt rushed and crowded. Still, GOOD moments and the landscape was impressive. Guide was cool but could talk louder. Food break was quick so had to eat fast. Not perfect but worth trying once!
