In Belek, there’s a protected beach where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. The famous Caretta Caretta turtles, which have existed for 95 million years, were once close to extinction. Thanks to conservation efforts, their numbers have recovered. These turtles can grow up to 150 cm and weigh around 80–90 kg.
Hatching Season
During nesting season, the female turtle digs around 80–100 holes but lays her eggs in just one. When the baby turtles hatch, they rush toward the sea, guided by the moonlight. They must reach the water before sunrise to avoid predators and heat. Only the strongest survive and return years later to lay eggs of their own.
